WATER SOLUBLE POWDER
Composition:
Each gram powder contains: 5,000,000 I.U. colistin sulphate.
Spectrum of activity:
Colistin, a polymyxin antibiotic, is a small spectrum antibiotic with bactericidal activity against Gram-negative bacteria, e.g. E. coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella spp., Haemophilus spp., Pasteurella spp., Brucella spp., Enterobacter aerogenes, Shigella spp. and Campylobacter spp.. It has no activity against Proteus spp., Gram-negative cocci and Gram-positive bacteria. After oral administration, the absorption from the intestines is very poorly.
Indications:
Gastro-intestinal infections caused by micro-organisms susceptible to colistin, e.g. Pseudomonas aeruginosa, E. coli and Salmonella spp., in calves, pigs and poultry.
Contra-indications:
Animals with disturbed renal function.
Side effects:
Side effects after colistin administration have only been reported after parenteral administration. These effects are due to three types of reactions, namely: (1) nephrotoxic reactions, (2) neurotoxic reactions and (3) local irritation effects (injection).
Dosage and administration:
Orally via drinking water or feed.
Calves: 2.5 gramsper200 kgbodyweight, twice daily, during 5-10 days.
(depending on the causal agent)
Sows: 1 gper kg feed during 3-5 days.
Piglets: 1 gper2.5 kgfeed during 3-5 days.
Poultry: 1 gper12 litresof drinking water during 3-5 days.
Mixed with feed, the product should be used immediately.
Medicated drinking water should be used within 24 hours.
Withdrawal time:
For meat: 2 days.
For eggs: 1 day.
Storage:
Store closed in a cool and dry place.
Shelf life:
3 years.
