Spectrum of activity:

Doxycycline is a tetracycline derivative, with bacteriostatic action against a largenumber of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria (like Staphylococci spp., Haemophilus influenza, E. coli, Corynebacteria, Bacillus anthracis, some Clostridia spp., Actinomyces spp., Brucella spp., Enterobacter spp., Salmonella spp., Shigella spp. and Yersinia spp. it acts also against Mycoplasma spp., Rickettsiae and Chlamydia spp.. Absorption after oral administration of doxycycline will be good and therapeutic levels will be attained quickly and resisted for a longer period, due to a relative long serum half-life time. Doxycycline has a great affinity to lung-tissues, therefore it is recommended especially for respiratory tract infections.

Colistin, a polymyxin antibiotic, is a small spectrum antibiotic with bactericidal activity against Gram-negative bacteria, e.g. E. coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella spp., Haemophilus spp., Pasteurella spp., Brucella spp., Enterobacter aerogenes, Shigella spp. and Campylobacter spp.. It has no activity against Proteus spp., Gram-negative cocci and Gram-positive bacteria. After oral administration, the absorption from the intestines is very poorly.

Infections (especially respiratory- and intestinal infections) caused by micro-organisms susceptible to doxycycline and/or colistin, like colibacillosis, salmonellosis, pasteurellosis, leptospirosis, in pigs or poultry.

Hypersensivity to tetracyclines; simultaneous administration with penicillins or cephalosporins; serious liver- or renal dysfunctions. Administration to laying hens.
