INJECTABLE SOLUTION

Composition:

Each ml solution contains:

100 mg gentamicin base (as sulphate).

Spectrum of activity:

Gentamicin is an antibiotic belonging to the group of amino glycosides. It has bactericidal activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria (including: Rhodococcus equi, Enterobacter spp., Serratia spp., Proteus spp., Actinobacillus spp., Campylobacter fetus subsp. jejuni and staphylococci). Furthermore it is active against Pseudomonas spp., Salmonella spp., Klebsiella pneumonia., E. coli,  Actinomyces pyogenes, Listeria monocytogenes, Pasteurella spp., and Treponema hyodysenteriae. The antibiotic is also active against mycoplasmas. Gentamicin may be active against bacteria, which are resistant to other amino glycoside antibiotics (like neomycin, streptomycin, and kanamycin).

Indications:

Infections caused by micro-organisms, susceptible to gentamicin, like occurring in urogenital-, respiratory-, skin-, tissue-, uterus- and gastro-intestinal infections in cattle, horses, pigs, sheep and goats.

Contra-indications:

Hypersensitivity to amino glycoside antibiotics, renal dysfunctions, vestibular-, ear- or visus dysfunctions, combinations with potential nephrotoxic or muscle paralysing medicines. Only one half of the normal doses must be given to animals with impaired renal functions.

Side-effects:

Kidney damage, and/or ototoxicity, with vestibular function being most often damaged may occur when given at high doses and during long times, seldom: respiratory paralysis due to neuromuscular blockade (when given at very high doses) may occur.
