Description

INJECTABLE / ORAL SOLUTION

Composition:

Each ml solution contains: 333 mg sulfadimidine sodium.

Spectrum of activity:

Sulfadimidine is a sulphonamide with antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive cocci (hemolytic streptococci, pneumococci and some staphylococci), against some Gram-negative bacteria (like Pasteurella spp., E. coli, Salmonella spp.) and against some Rickettsiae and protozoa. Sulfadimidine is rapidly absorbed from the site of application and slowly excreted by the organism, so in most animals a single daily dose is sufficient.

Bacterial resistance against sulphonamides mostly is permanent and cross-resistance between sulphonamides is common.

Indications:

Pneumonia, foot rot, diphtheria, actinobacillosis, colibacillosis, salmonellosis, pasteurellosis, enteritis, polyarthritis, streptococcal mastitis, dysentery, lymphangitis, young’s septicaemia and coccidiosis in horses, cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, dogs and poultry.

Contra-indications:

Liver or renal dysfunctions, diseases with decreased urine production (oliguria, anuria), hypersensitivity to sulphonamides. Sulfadimidine is incompatible with para-aminobenzoic acid and its esters (e.g. procaine or tetracaine). Don’t administer simultaneously with hexamethylene tetramine (methenamine).

Side-effects:

Sometimes hemorrhagic enteritis (in cattle), kidney damage, hypersensitivity reactions or crystalluria.

Dosage and administration: For slow intravenous, intramuscular or oral administration.
